Description

TOUR ITINERARY

The first stop of your tour is at the Destrehan Plantation, where guides will be dressed in costumes that reflect both slaves and owners. They will share stories of the people who lived and worked on the land, as well as the mansion's history since 1787. You will have the opportunity to enjoy free time to walk around the mansion, view the canopy of live oaks, and visit the slave quarters.

You will then travel by van across the Mississippi River on a suspended bridge. A short ride upriver through sugar cane fields will bring you to the Evergreen Plantation, which is the most intact plantation complex in the entire South with an astonishing 37 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

This personalized guided tour includes the "Big House" and also emphasizes the plantation's dependance on slave labor. You will stroll down an alley of 250 year old giant moss-draped live oaks shading 22 remarkably preserved slave cabins in their original double row configuration.

Your guide will share stories highlighting two and a half centuries of family ownership. You will also learn about the architectural significance of the plantation's buildings, as well as how it is still a privately owned and operated sugarcane plantation today.
